Artist Statement

Inspiration for my art can come from anything, anywhere, anytime. The ideas or images can sometimes come from photos I’ve taken, for instance, moss on a tree in Tennessee, a bumblebee on a flower in Santa Fe, my daughters walking on the beach in Texas, cows in England. Usually the idea in my head, whether abstract or not, includes color and detail and develops over a period of days. Or, instead of an image, my mind focuses on specific colors that later come to life on the canvas.

I paint because the process is exciting, messy, colorful, surprising. When I paint, time stands still, and I go somewhere else. When I stop and step back, I know that energy and color have come together and something new has been created. ×
